Thursday Challenge- Famous Face and the Kiskadee

I've been super busy this week so I haven't had the time to complete my painting but the deal was that every Thursday, my friend and I would post our art assignment for the week. This is the one I am currently working on.

I also decided to share with you all a picture I took of a beautiful bird. The Kiskadee. (I'm not sure about the spelling. I've seen a few variations.)

Nail Art-Gothic Chic

Quick thank you to my Aunt for giving me her Nail Polishes.

This is my nail art experiment. I may have mentioned this before but every day I want to try something different. I came up with this simple "Gothic Chic" look. I used black as the base and then with a nail art brush, applied the Sally Hansen white. Here are the pics. Remember, I am not a pro! lol

Artwork- Water Colour, Pen and Ink.

This is a study I did of two bottles.It's not quite finished yet but I decided to put it up anyway. I still have to fix the shadows.

I finally gave pen and ink a shot. This is my first time using it. I think it looks pretty good so far. This was done today in art class.

Thursday Challenge- Cloth Drawing

My friend and I have been challenging each other to try new things every week. Each Thursday we'll share our "challenge" with you. This week our assignment was, "Cloth Drawing" as it is often difficult to capture the folds in fabric. Hope you appreciate what I've done.

Paper Beads

Hey! I made my own beads! Yay me! Ok. So, I used a regular piece of paper, drew lines to create triangles and then cut the paper along the lines to create slim triangular strips.

Next I chose some bright coloured pencils (CAMPAP) and marked the edges of the paper.








For the next part of this project, I used lots and lots of toothpicks. Take the fattest part of the paper, roll it onto the toothpick, tightly. Continue rolling until there is no more paper left. Glue it. Glaze it.








What's New.
I added a photo of a mini pillow that I made.Click here It ended up being used as a pin cushion. I did not use a sewing machine for this, just a needle, thread and my bare hands. I encourage everyone to try it.

Rihanna Drawing

Oh Na Na... What's my name?... lol.. Ok. I started this drawing really early this morning. I will probably keeping changing little things here and there but this is for the most part what it will look like. Hope all the Rihanna fans appreciate it! Thank you for commenting and following this blog.

Chalk Pastel and Pencil Art.

Here is a look at what I've been working on.

This First piece is a television on top of a space saver.

You'll notice that I also included the DVD player (and some other electronic box thing) as well as the stacks of CDs on the bottom shelf. I borrowed a friend's construction paper and pastels to do this. Hopefully I'll be back at his house soon to finish it up as I need his to use his furniture for reference. (I went to spend the day without my art supplies. I was really happy that he had his own and was willing to share).

Today I practised drawing rounded objects. I used pencil as my medium (2B & 5B). There is still a bit of work to be done before I finish this one completely. Take a look a what i've done so far and let me know what you think.

V for Vendetta

Hey Friends!

I know it is very unusual for me to post on a Sunday. I guess I just couldn't wait for tomorrow to share my latest work with everyone.

This piece is a twist on the mask of the character "V" (from the film V for Vendetta). In the movie, his mask appears to be perfectly symmetrical. So I thought why not give this Stiff n' Rigid Guy Fawkes mask a more quizzical appearance. I kept it simple, changing only his eyebrows and the mouth. I hope everyone appreciates my interpretation.

Hello Kitty and Disney's Mickey.

Remember the water brushes I talked about in my last post? click here to view. Well, here are two examples of how they work with water colour pencils. I drew some familiar faces with a 2B pencil.

After you draw your objects or figures, take your water colour pencils and fill in the white areas. Take a filled water brush (Kuretake.Co.LTD) and pass it over the coloured areas, pulling outward, or away from the most pigmented area, to spread the colour. Hope this helped. What's A Water Brush?

I like to use water colour paints. In fact, while in school, that was the medium I used for most of my artwork. However, I can't tell you the number of times I knocked over water containers or how much mess I would make. (It didn't help that I would sit on the floor and place the container right next to my foot or knee.)

Anyway. I found myself browsing around a New York art shop some time last year, where I stumbled upon these brushes by KURETAKE CO. LTD.

What's so special about these brushes? They hold water. By that I mean that you don't have to fill a container with water anymore because the barrel of the brush stores water. To "activate", gently squeeze the barrel and the water runs down to the bristles.

What I like about these brushes.

• They do NOT leak. I am so serious. I have had these brushes for about 10 months and have never had a leaky situation. Isn't that great?
• It's a great tool if you need to paint somewhere that is far from water.
• I'll also add that the brushes appear to be durable, as the plastic has not split or cracked.

Eye Makeup- Blue, Bronze, Brown, Silver...

I decided to try something different today. I'm not sure that I'd wear this as an everyday look but it certainly is a fun look to do.

I used NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil (Milk) as a base, then applied the blue eye shadow to the middle of my lid. I did this look on the fly so I just laid eyes on this bronze colour and applied it to the outer part of my lid. On the inner corner, I added a lilac colour.

Then taking up some brown eye shadow, I darkened the bronze area. For the inner corner, I used an L.A. Splash eye glitter called Paparazzi to liven up the look.

For the top lid, I used a silver eyeliner and for the bottom lid I used NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil (Black Bean) and then went over it with a black eye shadow.

What I used

• Coloured Paper- Amethyst Canford Card 8 1/2 x 11 Inch 
• Soft Chalk Pastels- Alphacolor 24 soft pastels

I started by drawing the outline of my subject. I used a shade of purple close to the colour of the paper so that any errors made would be easy to hide/conceal.

Next I did what I would call a base colour for the clay pot. I added lighter and darker colours to create depth, shadow, highlight and to give a truer representation of the clay pot's colour.

Next I tackled the bench. The approach for this was the same. Base colour, then additional colours.
I tried to keep the background as simple as possible, using pastels that I figured would complement the subject.

Remember to spray your work with fixative (hair spray is a good alternative). After you spray, you may find it necessary to go back in and brighten your artwork. (I took these pics before spraying).

TIP: Try using dark colours like blues, greys, purples etc. for shadows instead of black.
